Anthony lived with a Nicaraguan family in one of the poorest areas in the Western Hemisphere. During this time he volunteered in a local hospital, as well as volunteered on a reforestation research project for PROCAFOR. His time in Nicaragua was cut short by Hurricane Mitch, which devastated the country’s infrastructure and killed close to 11,000 people in Nicaragua and Honduras. Anthony had to be airlifted out of the small mountain town where he was living. He was later interviewed by and appeared on the CBS NEWS. - LINK to article. After his return to the USA Anthony told the story of his Nicaragua trip to many local churches and groups in an effort to raise funds for the impoverished and devastated people of Nicaragua. The summer following his return from Nicaragua Anthony was accepted into a graduate research program at UCLA School of Medicine. At UCLA he conducted a neurological research project studying the effects of stroke and brain injury on axonal sprouting and brain regrowth.Anthony graduated from Kenyon College in three and a half years with cum laude honors. Following graduation he was offered an opportunity to be a Player/Coach for a top division American Football Team in Denmark. Anthony jumped on the offer to live and work in Europe and was the new tailback for the Esbjerg Hurricanes (www.hurricanes.dk). His Football career was short lived, however, as a knee injury sidelined him early in the season.Upon his return to the USA, Anthony accepted a job as an International Business Consultant in the chemicals industry working for Accenture. He was instrumental in the merger of Dow Chemical and Union Carbide Chemical in North America. His main objectives on this project were to learn the Dow Chemical computer system, help to integrate the Union Carbide Business's into Dow's computer system, train all Union Carbide employees on the use of Dow's computer system and ensure the transfer of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of inventory from Union Carbide Chemical to Dow Chemical. This project involved extensive travel to most of Union Carbide's production sites across the US, as well as Anthony leading many classes instructing the Union Carbide Employees on the functionality of the new Dow computer system. Anthony's management role in this project taught him how to oversee large-scale projects and effectively lead a team of co-workers to a successful project completion deadline.Once work had completed on the Dow-Union Carbide merger, Anthony was asked to work on the restructuring of Dow's Businesses in Europe. This project was based in Antwerp, Belgium and lasted for well over one year. The primary purpose of this project was the restructuring of Dow's business in order to maximize tax savings in the European market. Again, Anthony found himself traveling to most of Dow's production sites in Europe and Asia, developing software designed to transfer millions of dollars of inventory within Dow's computer system and advising Dow executives on the best way to structure the flow of materials in their businesses.Once the Europe project was complete Anthony decided he wanted to "stay put" for a while and decided to start Living Well Home Care in Independence. Living Well Home Care is a non-medical home health care company that helps seniors live safely in their own homes. Living Well helps seniors with everything from cooking, cleaning, shopping, errands, laundry, linen changes, as well as personal care. Anthony has run Living Well Home Care for over 7 years now and currently has a staff of over 45 nurses aids.
In 2006 Anthony had the opportunity to partner with his brothers on the purchase of Lake Shawn. Lake Shawn, located in southeastern Ohio, is a 108-acre piece of property with 30 acres of lakes and streams. The Lake is currently run as an active fish farm, as well as a hunting and fishing resort style getaway. Two deluxe cabins and multiple boats are available for guest use. Lake Shawn has attracted members of the Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as many business executives in the tri-state area.
Anthony currently resides on Chestnut Road with his wife, Michelle. The couple is expecting their first child this January and looks forward to raising a family in their hometown of Independence.
